Day 1

My first official day was spent with the Banquet Department. While most folks are home with their families, the Banquet staff is working taking care of our guests. NOt only did I get to help serve the guests, I got a close up view of how the food was prepared and plated up.

I may just be an M&M, but isn’t Labor Day supposed to be a holiday? The Morris Inn is a hopping place, even on a holiday! I saw hardworking staff in the kitchen, housekeeping, front desk, Sorin’s, administrative office, housemen – and I was lucky enough to spend my first day “on the job” with the banquet department.

I spent the first part of the afternoon in the lovely (air conditioned!) private dining rooms setting up and serving a 50th Wedding Anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Paul Marz. The happy couple had their wedding reception in the same room on September 1, 1958! We were able to see some pictures, and there have been just a few changes in furnishings and food since the fifties. And now that the banquet department is in new uniforms, there is a noticeable change in style as well! It was a beautiful event, and the bride and groom were glad to relive their happy memories from yesteryear with their closest friends – isn’t that how we all feel when we come in to work each day? Thank you Marge, Monisha, Eileen, Katherine and Michele for showing me how it is done.

The evening I spent in the Irish Courtyard for a Campus Ministry Dinner. This is an annual event that kicks off the start of the new school year for this group. Beautiful setting, beautiful food, beautiful service. Thank you Bev, Tony, Katie and Leif for a fun time in the tent – did any one else notice it was just a little warm?
